Through our membership in the US Green Building Council, ( USGBC ) MGZA supports the growing movement to design, construct and promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work.

US Green Building Council members developed LEED, Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, the national benchmark for designing, constructing and certifying sustainable buildings. LEED is a stringent measurement system for rating new and existing buildings, including commercial, institutions, density - residential and commercial interior spaces. Building evaluation is based upon accepted environmental and energy principles, striking a balance between known practices and emerging concepts. Five categories comprise a LEED evaluation, including Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Indoor Air Quality and Materials & Resources. In addition, the category Innovation & Design Process addresses design measures not covered under the other designations.

LEED is a performance - oriented system where credits are earned for satisfying each criterion. Different levels of certification for Green Buildings are awarded based upon a detailed assessment and evaluation of total credits earned. Comprehensive in scope, the LEED program represents an outstanding method of measuring and rewarding performance in the sustainable building movement. LEED accredited professionals have the expertise required to design a building to the standards set out by this program.

MGZA architects Mary G. Severino, AIA and Suzanne Stewart, AIA, have successfully completed the intensive training, passing the LEED Accreditation Exam, becoming the first Delaware - based architects to achieve LEED status. As LEED - accredited professionals, Ms. Severino and Ms. Stewart grasp the requirements of the LEED criteria, prerequisites and credits. Importantly, the MGZA architects understand the application of the LEED criteria to the design and construction process of real building projects.

Combining the realities of today with creative and sustainable design for the future, MGZA is a champion for the incorporation of LEED principles and guidelines in all project work. We will be happy to provide further information about the LEED Certification process, including viable methods of integrating environmentally friendly processes and materials into your facility. LEED Certified Design Solutions offeredby MGZA’s LEED accredited architects are represented in the following categories:
