Obtaining a regional headquarters building with the sophistication of it's Manhattan base of operations was the prime objective of BlackRock Capital Management.

MGZA began work on the facility, in 2000. A short 10 months later, BlackRock was moving into the completed building, which housed trading operations, a data center, fitness center, cafeteria and administrative offices. In spite of working with a fast-track schedule, MGZA provided comprehensive service for BlackRock’s strategic relocation, including programming, space planning, file inventory, design, furniture selection and specification, permit documentation and construction phase administration. Services grew from providing fit-out interior planning and design, into signage program management and landscape design management.

Critical to the success of the facility, was the setting of an aesthetic that carried the image of New York into the suburbs of Wilmington, Delaware. With an “anti-Wall Street” image, BlackRock’s CEO, Larry Fink, wanted light colors, a sophisticated natural finishes palette, open planning for essential broker communication, with colors and woods that complemented the beautiful park setting of the building. MGZA successfully delivered a product that became the prototype for the company’s new facilities in Manhattan.

With service and design that received high complements from BlackRock’s senior management, the Wilmington Regional Headquarters building remains a jewel in the BlackRock national network. MGZA continues with ongoing service to BlackRock in a relationship that has included advisory service on work in Dublin, Ireland.
